Petition: We Demand the Office of the Prime Minister Department of Refugees and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to immediately put on hold their partnership with InterAid Uganda for services to refugees in Kampala,

We refugees in Kampala together with other people of good will signatory to this petition do affirm the principle of expression and strongly believe that our voices should account now through this initiative,

After debate, deliberations and series of complaints both oral and written to different stake holders about the failure of InterAid Uganda, which is the implementing partner of both the government of Uganda and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to respond to the minimum services towards refugees, do strongly believe that InterAid has failure to respond to our expectations of  accessible, available, affordable and good quality services to all over the years and their after has not insured the protection of all refugees in Kampala,

Let us also bring to your attention that this initiative against poor service delivery by InterAid to refugees is not the first. In 2001 ASSOREF members had a demonstration at InterAid Offices in Old Kampala, from the period of 2005 – 2013 refugees organized themselves in different actions at the offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, refugees have expressed themselves in different meetings including the weekly briefing meetings at InterAid, but you have remained indifferent to these voices, rather you have maintained the business as usual,

In different forums refugees have expressed their dissatisfaction against services rendered to them by InterAid and the massive abuse of refugee rights in total impunity where InterAid has played a role either directly or indirectly. We have observed that in the process instead of responding to the needs of refugees InterAid has threatened, attacked and punished refugee leaders, who are the voices of the other voiceless refugees in Kampala, none among the critical refugee leaders in Kampala can access services from InterAid,

Today again through this petition and based on the universal principal that people’s voice should count we do acclaim our sovereignty and strongly demand you to suspend immediately all kind of partnership with InterAid which claims extending services to refugees in Kampala.

We strongly believe and are impatiently waiting to see our voices count now meanwhile we strongly recommend you for the collaboration with refugee led organizations in order to extend services to their fellow refugees and at the same time contribute towards their capacity building,
